goblets of royal cactuses

Well, my friends, the mural is almost finished and it's looking great!  Photos to come soon, I promise.  In the mean time, meet my cactus friends:

My cactus friends shall be named Pikachu and Jigglypuff.... because they're poke - mon.  Ah ha. ha. ha. ha.  Oh man, so 90's, so good.

I happened across these very royal looking goblets at the thrift store a little while back and I couldn't help but buy them.  Once I got them home I had a little *ahh ha!* moment and I realized they would make the perfect planters for my cute cactuses.  And so it happened.  And they lived happily ever after.

>> I started listening to The Perks of Being a Wallflower on audiobook today so I can watch the movie.  Who's read it/seen it?  Are you a fan?
>> Here is a list of all 649 pokemon and their evolution history.  You're welcome.
>> I love this Irrational Fears blog that my friend Leslie does.  You should submit an idea... I'd love to see it in full color.

  1. I love cacti! I once had a cactus that I named Rian Bartholomew. I could never remember when I had last watered it, so I ended up drowning it. ): Whoops!

The Original 151 Pokemon are the best, obviously.

I want to reread Perks. I read it in high school, & I think I liked it? The only thing I really remember from it is this quote: "& in that moment, I swear we were infinite."

  2. More detail than you desire: I read it in high school and re-read it a few weeks ago, just before seeing it. I liked it in high school, because who doesn't feel like the ostracized oddball in high school who wants to be properly appreciated? Lots of drugs and sex that don't seem to say anything meaningful, though, except to be a vehicle for pretty one-liner-ish thoughts. The movie: Emma Watson has a strange American accent and terrible timing, at least in the beginning, and you don't fall in love with her the way you're supposed to. The two boys, though, are incredible, pitch perfect, and also adorable. The slightly surreal moments are spot on, and you really feel it at the end. That kid is too cute and charming as a face to be Charlie, but dang he's a good actor.

  4. I disagree--the drugs and sex definitely do say something meaningful. I love the book and I loved the movie. I cried so hard. I just love anything that gives me some good feeling time. I didn't feel distracted by Emma's accent at all. It was so great.

  5. Saw the movie a few days ago and it was one of the best movies I've seen this year! I agree with Erin...the drugs and sex do say something meaningful and Emma, though her accent is a little wonky at times, is fabulous. I read the book a LOOOONNNNGGG time ago, so it's not as fresh in my head. But the movie gets two thumbs up from me.

    P.S. I cried. A lot.

  6. I haven't read the book, but I did see the movie and I thought it was brilliant. I felt like I was one of those teenager's. I assume the book is the same way?

P.S. How does one kill a cactus? I can't even keep those things alive...

  7. Great idea! We have some of those old goblets (purchased for a party) and we also keep a lot of succulents. Great idea for replanting.
