My hair changed colors... again. I like dying my hair, it's like playing with an oversized paintbrush on my head full of chemicals and mysterious results. I've been dying my own hair for a while now, but it's been getting harder and harder to do so since my hair has been getting longer and longer (which is kind of unusual for me). A few days ago I decided to go to a nearby Paul Mitchell in-training hair school and have them dye it for me. I told them "strawberry-blondish redish-orange-ish, please!" which, I know, is a very fool-proof answer and how could they mess that up? Well, I got red-ish orange-ish with a dash of maroon, but it was a happy accident I really love it (and Hum does too... wink wink)! It was fun to get something totally unpredictable and new.
>> Do you have a good hair color/hair cut horror story? I'd love to hear it.
>> I can't believe how much more saturated the salon color is compared to the color I used to buy at Sally's. There's no going back, man.

LOVE it!!! Red is so fun.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying my hair for a full 10 years now - thank you, early grey-ing genetics - and while I've kept to the brunette palette for the most part, I did break free and go red twice. The first time was actually at Paul Mitchell, and it was a horror story!!! They did my hair all through college, so I had faith in their abilities when I moved back to town six years later, but I asked to go red, and all I got was a dark brown with a twinge of red - opposite problem you had. :) So I had to go back again a few days later, at which point they stripped the hair of its color (a crucial step for going lighter) and then dyed it a lovely auburn. It was one heck of a process - and the last time I went to PMTS - but totally worth the time.
love it. how much do the schools charge? excited to see you so soon!
ReplyDeleteOnce I had dark red hair and went to a beauty school to have them make it one natural color as I was going on a mission and couldn't dye my hair all the time, they died it brown, everywhere except where my roots were was this terrible pink color, so then they bleached out all my hair and redyed it, it was ugly, I had a friend fix it and swore to never go to a beauty school again!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a senior in highschool I had really really long all natural blonde hair. I was planning on selling it for some extra money, I was told by a wig store they would buy it for $500-$1000, but I needed 12". I had 12" to spare and wanted to go get it trimmed and evened up before I sold it. I went to my sister's friend, who was in hair school at the time. I told her to trim it up just a bit. I watched as she cut, and kept cutting and kept cutting. By the time she was done she had cut over 10 inches. And not one lump either, a few inches here, a few inches there. I just sat in the chair speechless. My hair was now too short to be able to have enough to sell, and it was too short for my liking. BAD BAD day for me
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it!! Great accident!
ReplyDeleteI had my hair colored at a Regis saloon three days before my senior year. The color was hideous. Orange with blonde stripes. I cried forever so my mom took my back and the only "fix" was to strip my hair and then color it. It was so dry and limp it felt like straw. Weeks later I permed it (gasp) and dyed it dark brown. It's amazing I had any hair my senior year. I learned my lesson to only go to those you trust (but I do a plenty of Sally color too!)
Wow that IS really pretty! Love it! I went platinum a few years ago. Not porn star platinum. Punk rock platinum. I tried to like it for two weeks but just had to let it go. I looked like a ghost. My life wasn't ready for my punk rock alter ego to emerge.
ReplyDeleteRed looks gorgeous with your skin tone. And I love your long hair style. You are a natural beauty anyway, but fun to play with color, isn't it? And now you can officially be adopted into my family of redhead daughters:) (I'm keeping my hair colored to my once natural blonde. Shhhhhh! I'm over half gray now.)
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty! Much better than the time I tried to go red-headed... I don't know what I was thinking. I have thick, BLACK eyebrows and eyelashes. Somehow I thought orange-ish red was OK?
ReplyDeleteI went to the Bon Losee Academy in Provo once for a haircut ... it was a disaster. I basically wanted a trim. They put me with the stylist-in-training who was about to graduate in a few weeks, so I figured it'd be fine. WRONG. Not only did this tiny little trim take 2 hours, she proceeded to give me long-ish bangs that weren't even blended. Nevermind the fact I was traveling 700 miles the next day for my brother-in-law's WEDDING.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!! I agree.. once you've had your hair dyed by the salon those little boxes just dont cut it anymore!
ReplyDeleteYour accident is lovely! My accident was ucky.
ReplyDeleteMy natural hair color is practically black. I had it professionally dyed blonde which was awesome. Then I had a LOT of purple dye lying around so I dyed my hair purple for like two weeks which was also awesome.
Then, I thought, I need this dark STAT (for a family photo occasion)! So I bought a box of black dye and did it myself. Aaaaand it turned out a murky green-brown color. I looked like the joker. So the next morning, I called Supercuts and asked them to dye my hair black for reals. And they did.
When I told my hairstylist about the whole debacle, she scolded me and said, "Next time you text me before you do something silly like that! I would have TOLD YOU that you needed to go brown-ish first and that trying to go black would turn out green!!"
Lesson learned. ;)
Three days before I started college I decided to dye my hair, it was supposed to be auburn but turned out bright orange. Everyone tried to tell me that it looked just fine, that was until they saw it in the sun. It was horrible. So what did I do? Ran out and died it black pitch black the day before classes started. I found out later on that people I had met that first semester thought I was a goth because of my very pale complexion and jet black hair.
