Kira the nude muse

Last Saturday afternoon I decided I wanted to make a new skirt.  I started sketching ideas, but then I realized that skirt looked so lonely, so I made an imaginary friend to wear the skirt.  Her name is Kira.  I named her after the girl in Xanadu... yes I watched that for the first time last night.  Wow.  Let's have a quick one word association about Xanadu: neon.  Don't you just love the 80's?  Thanks for lending me the dvd Lisa.

Two things you should know about Kira:  One, she is very confident in her nakedness and two, she has great hair.

The once lonely skirt united with Kira and felt so much happier.

But then the skirt got a little jealous because some competition showed up...

Wouldn't this dress be awesome?  I don't know if I have the seamstress skills to pull this off.  Anyone want to make it for me?

Let's just say...  got a little carried away into my la-la land, which is kind of like la-la land/muse world that lies behind the graffiti wall in Xanadu, but there's just a lot less neon.

(Pssst.  I just used vellum to overlay these drawings.  Have you tried making clothes designs before?  How do you do it?)

  1. Great ideas! I hope you can make them a reality. There's got to be a seller on etsy who can do that for you.

  2. Me and my sister used to do this all the time when we were kids--although our drawing skills were no where near as good as yours.

  3. I'd love to see you on "Project Runway" ... First things first...making your designs!

"How to Make Sewing Patterns" by Don McCunn and "Use Adapt & Design Patterns" by Lee Hollahan are great helps to sewing your designs, they'll teach you the strategies to make anything!

P.S. The overlays are a great technique!

  8. I love those designs! (Kira would totally wear them!) I don't know anything about making clothes, but I sure would love to wear those particular items.

  9. I love the skirt! That's how I've designed clothes before, and how my sewing teacher taught me to do it, too. She supplied us with the model, however, since some of us aren't exactly great at drawing bodies.
